Day 9 From Col de Forclaz to Argentiere 08.07.23

This was our biggest day of walking, we managed to walk 20kms with a steep climb of 1100m where we crossed from Switzerland into France. We were rewarded with spectacular panorama views across the entire Mont Blanc range. This was at times a challenging walk through mixed terrains and a big descent into Argentiere.

A little bit of up. All hail great boots and even more so walking poles.

Our sparkly gaiters again received numerous comments: “Moulin Rouge, Disco gaiters, Beautiful, Do you sell them?” Might need to start a side line business - limited market I feel!

While trekking up you are rewarded with splendid views in any and all directions.

A short video as we crossed the ridge. The cool mountain breeze bringing some relief for sweaty bodies.

Lunch with a view and the super trekkers. Most days we had a picnic lunch that had been supplied from the previous night’s accommodation. Most lunches were a delicious baguette with ham, French cheese, and lettuce. Plus fruit and or chips. Today we got a block of Swiss chocolate. Went down a treat!! You know the story by now, if we walked up meant we needed to walk down. Descending is by far harder on the body, especially the knees and thighs.  Our descent today was 1300m.
We arrived into a small village called Argentiere
We had started walking at 8am and got into the village at 5pm. That hot shower, clean clothes and a lie on the bed were muched needed and appreciated. The village was beautiful with lots of potted colour.  We had Pesto Pasta, prosciutto pizza with lemon and strawberry ice cream. The food on the whole trip has been amazing with most meals other than our walking picnics are three courses. I do not think we have lost any weight on this trip. We had the best night’s sleep. Up for a 7am breakfast then the 8am transfer to our next day starting position. On the home stretch.
