Day 12 Geneva
Another day enjoying the beautiful city of Geneva.
We started with a leisurely breakfast. Then we made use of the the Geneva Tourism free travel card. The travel card allows for free travel on buses, trains and ferries. The day was feeling like it would be hot, greater than 35 degrees. So we decided to get out on the water via the ferries. Genève has the Rhone River pass through to Lake Leman.
Our trekking colleagues left to make their way home.
Got to see lots of different bikes, electric bikes are extremely popular as are the “troop” carriers.
In the afternoon the heat continued, so we went to paddle our feet in the Rhone. Very refreshing and cooling. We sat on the bank with a bunch of locals. The water temperature was not ‘arctic’. The water is very clean and moves at a rapid pace. The locals have areas that are used for swimming, there are lots of warnings about the danger of currents, temperature changes and depth. They are unsupervised.
Later we searched out a fondue restaurant. We choose a traditional two cheese fondue. It was served with bread, small potatoes, gherkins and pickled onions. We also had a pleasant Genevois white wine. The flavours and tastes were sensational.
We were not the only ones having fondue.
Sitting on the balcony looking back to our paddle spot. It is 9.20 pm. Nice to be enjoying a cooler breeze after a hot day. There were some thunder rumbles but nothing has come of it.
Tomorrow will be our last full day in Geneva and Switzerland. A chance to reset and check the next part of the journey.
